Psilocybin for LGBTQ+ & Identity Exploration

Psilocybin-assisted therapy

Identity is deeply personal and can shape how we understand ourselves, our relationships, and our place in the world. For LGBTQ+ individuals, exploring identity may also involve experiences related to acceptance, belonging, relationships, family, self-expression, or the expectations of others.

Psilocybin-assisted therapy can offer space to explore questions about identity. It can help you connect with parts of yourself that are hard to express. Psilocybin assisted therapy offers a new perspective on the experiences that have shaped how you see yourself.

For some people, this may include exploring shame, self-acceptance, authenticity, and relationships. It may also include what it means to live in a way that feels more aligned with who they are. Often old narratives from the past shape the present in ways we are unaware of. Bringing awareness and compassionate understanding to the present can be profound.

At Reset, we do not see your identity as something we need to change or fix. Your therapist supports your experience and the areas you choose to explore. They respect your identity, relationships, values, and lived experience. We consider what you’ve been through and can help you find ways adversity and challenge have shaped you today.

What to Expect

Preparation: You’ll spend at least two hours preparing with your therapist before your psilocybin session. This gives you time to discuss why you're interested in the experience and anything you hope to explore.

This might include your identity, self-acceptance, relationships, family, and belonging. It may include experiences that shaped how you understand and express yourself. You and your therapist will also discuss what to expect during the session and what support looks like for you.

Administration Session: Your psilocybin session is private, with your therapist there throughout the experience. While you may come into the session with goals related to identity, you do not need to stay focused on them. Psilocybin experiences can take unexpected turns. Your therapist will support you with anything that comes up.

Integration: After your session, you’ll have at least two hours of integration with your therapist. This is time to talk through the experience and anything you want to better understand. You might find yourself thinking differently about your identity, relationships, self-acceptance, belonging, or how you express yourself. Your therapist can help you make sense of those experiences and decide what, if anything, you want to do with them afterward.
